Happy Birthday John Lee! (August 22, 1917 to June 21, 2001) Tonight the John Lee Hooker Foundation presents The Heart and Soul of the Blues. A VIP reception starts at 6:45pm and includes a private viewing of Legends of the American Folk Blues Festivals1968 plus wine and hors d'oeuvres. The show begins at 8pm featuring the John Lee Hooker's Coast to Coast Blues Band, Zakiya Hooker, Jimmy Dillon, Ollan Christopher, Gail Muldrow, Archie Hooker and Special Guests.
The John Lee Hooker Foundation partners with the non-profit community to serve the needs of children and youth in the areas of the arts, education and health. Started in 2001 by The John Lee Hooker family, the foundation supports grass roots community-based tax-exempt organizations in the San Francisco Bay area, the United States and the countries touched by the music of John Lee Hooker. The purpose of the Foundation is to raise and distribute funds to other non-profit community-based organizations or individuals with specific economic hardships. The aim of the Foundation is to try to provide other non-profit community-based organizations with supplemental funding so they in turn can maintain existing programs and provide new and better services for their local communities.
