"Remembrances of the childhood sounds and smells of the holiday season--Grandma baking cookies and Dad singing his favorite Christmas songs--inspired Bay Area singer and songwriter Michelle Schmitt to record "Christmas on Pine Mountain", a heartfelt mix of originals and country-inflected classic carols. But there's nothing sugary about these songs. Sure, there are nods toward what she calls family strength, love and commitment. But Schmitt, who will perform her 2nd annual holiday program at the 142 Throckmorton to benefit Meals on Wheels, pens probing lyrics that are rife with meaning, often addressing the challenges of personal relationships as well as the strength and weaknesses of the human spirit.
This engaging Christmas show feels like a family reunion or a visit from long lost friends. It features a polished band that includes Ricky Fataar, Garrin Benfield, George Marinelli, Marc Levine, Michael Rodriguez and Damian Sol. Attendees will get a taste of a new Americana record that Michelle and her band recorded this year as well as get into the holiday spirit while raising much needed funds for Meals on Wheels. Last year's show sold out quickly so purchase your tickets soon. Start off this holiday season by spreading the love.
