San Francisco native Anne Rainwater is a multi-talented artist known for her compelling interpretations of music from Bach to Zorn. An active freelancer and teacher, Anne is passionate for and excels in both solo and chamber settings. She has appeared at The Kennedy Center, Le Poisson Rouge, the Rose Studio at Lincoln Center, Bargemusic, and the Galapagos Art Space, amongst others. In April 2010, Anne presented Messiaen’s Oiseaux Exotique with the TACTUS ensemble. Other recent varied appearances include a trio performance at Mass MOCA, a concerto premiere at UC San Diego, a live radio appearance on KZYX’s “The Mind of the Composer,” a residency at Louisiana State University, and recital appearances at the Mendocino Music Festival, Cornelia Street Café, and with the Nevada County Composers Cooperative. She was also profiled in the inaugural issue of Siren: Rock’s First Magazine for Women. Along with Jude Traxler, Anne performs as a member of the piano-percussion duo futureCities; highlights from their last two seasons include performances at the Gershwin Hotel (as part of the Contagious Sounds series), the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, Princeton University, and the Merce Cunningham Dance Studio, where Anne was thrilled to play John Cage on Cage’s own piano. This past March and April, Anne traveled to Germany and Austria in collaboration with the group CocoRosie, the headlining ensemble for the Donau Festival 2012.

Anne’s past collaborations include work with the composers John Adams, David Lang, Stuart Saunders Smith, Nils Vigeland and Brett Dietz, percussionists David Cossin and Ted Atkatz, and violinist Rick Shinozaki of the Del Sol Quartet. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music in Contemporary Piano Performance from the Manhattan School of Music. At International House, an NYC global graduate student community, Anne received a Performing Artist Residency (2008-2009) and a Performing Arts Fellowship (2009-2010). She has taught at the University of Miami, as well as Music Wise NYC and the Riverdale Music Studio. Anne has recorded for Oberlin Conservatory’s Aural Capacity Series, as well as for Cat Crisis and Bourbon Thomas Records. When not at the piano, she can be found training for her next marathon, playing with her cat Ernie, reading fiction, or experimenting in the kitchen.
